David Vaughan learned music playing clarinet in the public schools of Kingsville, Texas (home of the King Ranch) and continued his studies at North Texas State University, where he studied classical clarinet and earned a degree in Music Education. Over the next twenty years he taught band, choir, and math in the public schools of Texas, Michigan, and California while he was, in his words, "recovering from the abuse of the classical music degree". Now that he's recovered, he plays keyboards, silver and wooden flutes, clarinet, saxophone, and percussion with inya eeya! and loves the variety. "With musicians like these, I can play just about whatever and whenever I want, or just sit out and enjoy it".

David was one of the first conductors of the Houston Concert Band while teaching near Houston, Texas, and has taught private lessons since he was in his teens (he declines to give exact figures). He continues to teach and play a large variety of instruments and styles, including percussion and music readiness classes for pre-schoolers and their moms he calls Mom-bo Drums.

He has played in symphony orchestras, blues, reggae, jazz, and rock and roll bands for most of his life, but says he likes inya eeya! the best. "We call it Tropical Fusion, but it's really just vacation music. It's whatever we as a band think is the most fun!"
